The Mud Army

Opening the door after the flood and finding everything in your home completely destroyed and covered in mud was devastating. Not only could nothing be saved, everything had to be turfed out onto the street and the house cleaned out before mould set in.

The stench was overpowering and the task overwhelming.

Two days after the flood, when we were finally able to get back into the house, there was just us, going through and taking photos for the insurers. But within half an hour complete strangers were at the door, gumboots and gloves on and Gurnis in hand.

For two days, family, friends and strangers cleaned out the house and saved me so much time and effort. Of the strangers that came, worked and left, I didn't get a single name or phone number, so I've never been able to thank them. Perhaps one of them will read this one day.
